Duke Nukem 3D Set for XBLA Release Sept. 24

Classic first-person shooter gets an exact release date.

By Kris Pigna,
There's probably something to be said about the fact that, since Duke Nukem Forever was originally announced in 1997, enough time has passed in the gaming industry for such technological and distribution strides to be made that the original Duke Nukem 3D will be digitally re-released over Xbox Live Arcade first. Yeah, there's probably something to say about that, but it's beside the point. The point is Duke 3D is set for release on XBLA September 24, according to the latest episode of GameTrailers TV (via Joystiq).

As previously revealed, Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA will receive a couple of newfangled updates, including a rewind feature and a saved films feature. Similar to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the rewind feature will let players turn back a bit of time, either to erase a mistake or simply replay a particularly exciting segment. The saved films feature, naturally, lets players record and share clips from multiplayer games, in order to bother other players with clips they think are cool but are actually not very exciting at all (the 21st century manifestation of a friend's boring vacation slide show).

Pricing for Duke Nukem 3D hasn't been revealed yet, although that announcement should be coming soon.
